First Day on Ice
Thank you to all the participants, parents and volunteers! We had a great first day on the ice and I hope everyone had fun!

Thank you again to everyone for making the first day on ice a success. We learned some basics of hockey and got ourselves comfortable in our equipment.

I woul like to thank Canadian Tire in Port Colborne for donating all the stick tape as well as the water bottles!

Here is a tip for all of our participants and parents to help development:

GO PUBLIC SKATING
Whether you are or are not comfortable on your skates, the more time on the ice will build your skills actually quite quickly. Most centres offer at least 1 or 2 public skating sessions during the week. There are ones that do not cost or costs only a bit.

There are many online resources, games, articles, tips, blogs all about hockey.

From the Ontario Hockey Federation Website here are just a few reasons why hockey is so great.

"Similar to other team sports, hockey can bring many advantages compared to those that are played individually. Other than the obvious health benefits of getting physical activity, participants improve coordination, strength, flexibility, reflexes and agility. Maybe even more important, are the life skills that hockey players learn from a young age and carry on well past their hockey playing careers. Players learn to work as a team towards a common goal, develop strong communication and listening skills and respect for authority and rules. Participants also develop self-confidence, patience, self-esteem and sportsmanship that will help them in all areas of their lives.

Not every player will become the next Sidney Crosby, but every player will benefit being a part of the greatest game on Earth!"

See you at the rink!
